  • Apatite, Prehnite, Sterling Silver, Earrings

These charming earrings showcase wonderful 11mm x 10mm ovals of green prehnite alongside stunningly sparkling 4mm x 3mm faceted ovals of apatite. Each of these impressive gemstones is elegantly hand-set in stylish sterling silver, sitting in bezel and claw settings, respectively.

This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Craig Aderyn Pass, an untouched channel through a range of sloping mountains in North-West Wales’ scenic heartland, Gwynedd. Here, a solitary road snakes through a valley of verdant trees and expansive fields, enveloped on either side by the steep inclines of ancient, ice-carved mountains.

Apatite, an arresting gemstone which naturally occurs in a broad array of hues, is named after the Greek apate (‘deceit’) as its varied colours have fooled many into mistaking it for other minerals.

Named after 8th-century Dutch Colonel H. Von Prehn, prehnite – a serene stone of pale green – is valued amongst crystal healers for its cleansing, calming character.

35mm long (~1 ¼ inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.

Aqua Aura Quartz, Ethiopian Opal, Gemstones, Sterling Silver, Earrings

An enchanting pair of earrings showcasing serenely sparkling 5mm x 10mm faceted marquises of aqua aura quartz alongside wonderful 7mm x 5mm inverted pear-drops of Ethiopian opal, elegantly hand-set in stylish sterling silver bezel settings.

This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Sychnant Pass, a dramatic gully which breaks through the natural barricade formed by steep, sloping hillsides in Conwy, North Wales. Following the road yields jaw-dropping views of the Irish Sea’s myriad blues, whilst scaling the grassy inclines at either side grants panoramic vistas as far as the Great Orme.

An April birthstone, aqua aura quartz is notable for its entrancing tones of striking blue and subdued green which evoke the colours of the sun-drenched Caribbean Sea.

As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.

35mm long (~1 ¼ inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.

Some ancient folklore strengthens this maritime association even further, going as far as to describe the gemstone as the treasure of mermaids!

One of November’s birthstones, topaz is thought to be named after the Sanskrit tapas, meaning ‘fire’. Beliefs around topaz vary – Hindu mythology points to its functions as a lengthener of life and provider of wisdom, whilst some 13th-century mystics claimed that it could sharpen and even restore eyesight and cure mental illness.
