This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of the roaring waterfalls found in Clocaenog Forest, a vast swathe of verdant woodland which stretches across Denbighshire and Conwy. Here, the foaming white water spills over dark grey rocks, the deep green trees bearing witness to its natural ferocity.
A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock from both asteroids and the moon.
One of June’s many birthstones, moonstone bears the symbolic associations of its celestial namesake, namely love and renewal, famously explored by romantic poets such as Shelley.
One of November’s birthstones, topaz is thought to be named after the Sanskrit tapas, meaning ‘fire’. Hindu literature points to its functions as a lengthener of life and provider of wisdom.
