Ethiopian Opal & Blue Topaz with Cubic Zirconia Sterling Silver Gemstone Earrings
An enchanting pair of earrings featuring top-quality 6mm x 6mm cushion-cut gemstones of earth-mined Ethiopian opal alongside two stunningly sparkling faceted cut 6mm x 4mm faceted ovals of semi-precious blue topaz and four glimmering 2mm x 2mm rounds of lab-grown faceted-cut cubic zirconia. Each of these impressive gemstones is elegantly hand-set in a stylish sterling silver claw setting.
This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Rhaeadr y Cwm, where pure white water thunderously crashes down a self-carved path through jagged rocks and green-flecked cliffs.
One of November’s birthstones, topaz is thought to be named after the Sanskrit tapas, meaning ‘fire’. Hindu literature points to its functions as a lengthener of life and provider of wisdom.
Like other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.
A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock from both asteroids and the moon.
40mm long (~1 ½ inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.
