Blue-John Castelan Necklace, Handmade Gemstone Jewellery, Sterling Silver, Pendant

Uniquely crafted 13mm x 9mm pear drop-shaped Blue John semi-precious cabochon gemstone uniquely from Castleton, Derbyshire. This natural gemstone is handset in sterling silver in a simple, yet elegant bezel setting that showcases the gemstone perfectly!
This impressive jewellery is inspired by my photograph of the historic Peveril Castle. This imposing ruin holds a commanding position on an isolated rocky hilltop overlooking the village of Castleton. Built by Henry II in 1176 this fortress is one of Englands’s earliest Norman strongholds and is even mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086.
Blue John also known as the ‘Derbyshire Spar’ is a rare purple, blue pattern form of fluorite only found in Castleton in the Peak District, Uk. It is said to have been discovered by Romans over 2000 years also and has been prized ever since.
Attached to an 18-inch chain, this dazzling gemstone pendant will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of its inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented piece which makes the perfect gift.
