This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph taken on a very windy day of the vast landscape of Mam Tor or “Mother Hill’ which is a 517 high landmark overlooking the picturesque village of Castleton, in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Blue John also known as the ‘Derbyshire Spar’ is a rare purple, blue pattern form of fluorite only found in Castleton in the Peak District, UK. It is said to have been discovered by Romans over 2000 years also and has been prized ever since.
One of the birthstones for January, garnet – historically tied to friendship and faithfulness – has long been used for decoration, having been found amongst the relics of ancient Greece and Egypt.
A February birthstone, amethyst has traditionally symbolised sobriety – its name derives from the Greek ametusthos, “not intoxicated”. More recently, it has also been tied to deep emotional bonds.
A November birthstone, citrine is characterised by its rich hues of yellow and gold, inspiring symbolic ties with both wealth and the sun, said to inspire, energise, and bring prosperity.
44mm long (~1 3/4 inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.
