Ethiopian Opal, Green Amethyst, Cubic Zirconia Gemstone, Sterling Silver Earrings

A delightful pair of earrings featuring staggering 10mm x 10mm natural faceted green amethyst gemstones complemented by 7mm x 5mm faceted ovals of AAA-quality Ethiopian opal, around which sit four 1mm sparkling cubic zirconias. Each of these impressive gemstones is elegantly hand-set in stylish sterling silver.

As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.

A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock from both asteroids and the moon.

A February birthstone, amethyst has traditionally symbolised sobriety – its name derives from the Greek ametusthos, “not intoxicated”. More recently, it has also been tied to deep emotional bonds.

This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of the amazing views from the walk up to Monte Castel Giudeo. Just on the outskirts of Cortona, running from the village of Portole to Poggioni, a breathtaking path owes its name to the remains of this ancient medieval castle.

38mm long (~1 1/4 inchs), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.

Thanks for looking. Commissions welcome.
