Ethiopian Opal, Tanzanite Gemstone, Sterling Silver Earrings
These wonderfully colourful earrings host the striking hues of 5mm x 4mm and 4mm x 3mm ovals and 6mm x 3mm teardrops of faceted, earth-mined Ethiopian opal, complemented by four rich blue 4mm x 4mm trillions of rare natural Tanzanite, hand-set in elegant, lever-backed sterling silver with enchanting gold accents.
A December birthstone, tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, borrowing its name from its origin country. It is often worn by Tanzanian mothers to grant their new-borns happy lives.
As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.
This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Orvieto, a city in the Italian province of Terni, Umbria. Built high atop a wall of volcanic rock, this hidden gem rises dramatically above a verdant paradise, the gorgeously ornate white façade of its medieval cathedral drawing visitors from afar to its romantic, cobbled streets.
45mm long (~1.8 inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.
