This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of the unforgettable landscape of Brian Head, Utah. A spot defined by visual contrasts – the reds and oranges of its monolithic rock formations against the deep green hues of its forests, the colour-rich earth against the whiteness of its winter coating of snow – this remarkable setting is home to a stunning plateau, picturesque town, and, astonishingly, a winter ski resort.
One of the birthstones for January, garnet – historically tied to friendship and faithfulness – has long been used for decoration, having been found amongst the relics of ancient Greece and Egypt.
As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.
A December birthstone, tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, borrowing its name from its origin country. It is often worn by Tanzanian mothers to grant their new-borns happy lives.
50mm long (~2 inches), these dazzling gemstone earrings will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of their inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented pair which makes the perfect gift.
