    These fabulous earrings feature uniquely stunning  6mm x 6mm faceted rounds of blue-green ‘Neptune’s Garden’ topaz complemented by two 5mm x 3mm faceted ovals of natural emerald. Each impressive gemstone is elegantly hand-set in stylish sterling silver.

     

    One of November’s birthstones, topaz is thought to be named after the Sanskrit tapas, meaning ‘fire’. Hindu literature points to its functions as a lengthener of life and provider of wisdom.

     

    A May birthstone, emerald has been called the ‘Jewel of Kings’ due to its ties to historical royalty; it was popularised by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Cleopatra, and has remained in fashion since.

     

    This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Bagno Vignoni – ‘the Bath in the Vineyards’ – a quaint Italian village set amongst the gentle hills of Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia. This medieval settlement is centred around the hot spring baths which give it its name, crystal-clear sapphire waters walled with pale stone. Both the baths and the picturesque properties which surround them can be dated back to the medieval era, and though the central pool is no longer open to the public for bathing, the nearby hot springs at the Parco dei Mulini offer a similar experience.
