This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Galveston, a gorgeous coastal resort in Texas, USA. Whilst this sunlit paradise ordinarily bustles with tourists, our out-of-season visit left the beautiful beach to ourselves, except for the friendly seagulls and charming dolphins that followed us down its perfect, sandy stretches.

A February birthstone, amethyst has traditionally symbolised sobriety – its name derives from the Greek ametusthos, “not intoxicated”. More recently, it has also been tied to deep emotional bonds.

A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock from both asteroids and the moon.

A December birthstone, turquoise has been long-prized for its associations with good luck; the Aztecs, who valued it above gold, sported turquoise war-gear to enhance their battlefield fortunes.

Attached to an 18-inch chain, this dazzling gemstone pendant will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of its inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented piece which makes the perfect gift.
