This unique jewellery is inspired by Whitby, North Yorkshire. Synonymous with Captain Cook and Dracula this coastal town has quirky narrow streets, russet rooftops and bustling harbour, overlooked by the majestic Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey. As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.

Whitby Jet is very rare and very old; one hundred and fifty million years in fact. It is actually a fossilised monkey puzzle tree that with the movement of the earth’s crust became compressed with rock and sand to form seams in the cliffs around Whitby. Made famous by Queen Victoria semi-precious black Whitby Jet is truly inspirational.
