This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Sychnant Pass, a dramatic gully which breaks through the natural barricade formed by steep, sloping hillsides in Conwy, North Wales. Following the road yields jaw-dropping views of the Irish Sea’s myriad blues, whilst scaling the grassy inclines at either side grants panoramic vistas as far as the Great Orme.

Aventurine – commonly found in glittering hues of forest green – is named after the Italian a ventura (‘luck’), as its 18th-century discovery was accidental, tying it to good fortune thereafter.

As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.
