Stunning Emerald & Ethiopian Opal with Cubic Zirconia Sterling Silver Pendant

A captivating necklace featuring a beautiful 8mm x 6mm pear-drop of earth-mined Ethiopian opal alongside two precious 7mm x 5mm pear-drops of natural green emerald, and two stunningly sparkling 2mm x 2mm rounds (in addition to several 1mm x 1mm rounds) of lab-grown faceted cubic zirconia. Each of these impressive gemstones is elegantly hand-set in a stylish sterling silver claw setting.

This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of the castle of Dinas Bran near Llangollen, Denbighshire. Situated atop a steep hill, this 13th-century ruin offers a commanding view of the local landscape, its crumbling grey walls framing the delicate green and purple hues of the nature below with the decaying remnants of bygone military might.

A May birthstone, emerald has been called the ‘Jewel of Kings’ due to its ties to historical royalty; it was popularised by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Cleopatra, and has remained in fashion since.

As with other opals, Ethiopian opal is a birthstone for October, said to brim with joyously positive emotion whilst also invoking the calmness and restraint required to balance such ardour.

A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock from both asteroids and the moon.

Attached to an 18-inch chain, this dazzling gemstone pendant will arrive packaged in a small gift box featuring the image of its inspiration on the inside of the lid. Combined with an organza bag, this results in a gorgeously-presented piece which makes the perfect gift.

Lake Celyn has a calm appearance with a controversial history. A village in the deep valley of the Rive Trywern, at the foot of the Arenig Mountains was flooded to create a water supply for a major city. On occasions during rare droughts the top of the local chapel is revealed. On most days I visit the serene, calm and mid blue waters are the perfect cover.

A birthstone for the month of April first developed in the USSR in the 1970s, cubic zirconia is created from base substances found in extraterrestrial rock, both from asteroids and the moon. Some claim that it aids in controlling one’s ego and selfishness, as well as in gaining a strong mental and spiritual clarity.

According to some, tanzanite also aids in positivity and self-discovery.

Topaz, Garnet, Peridot & Amethyst Sterling Silver Earrings

    Faceted cut 3mm x 3mm round & 8mm x 5mm inverted pear drop Blue Topaz semi-precious gemstones, complimented by wonderful 5mm x 3mm marquise garnet, 5mm x 3mm marquise purple Amethyst & two 3mm x 3mm round Peridot semi-precious gemstones.

This stunning jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Moel Famau, where blooms of beautifully pink and purple heather act as a rich and vibrant highlight to the subdued moorland hues en-route to an ancient local landmark.

One of the birthstones for January, garnet is a wonderfully diverse gemstone which has been used for decorative purposes as far back as the Bronze Age thanks to its captivating beauty; garnet jewellery has been found amongst the relics of ancient Greece and Egypt. Historically, it has also been associated with friendship and faithfulness through links to numerous myths and legends.

A birthstone for those born in February, amethyst is a striking semi-precious gemstone which has traditionally symbolised sobriety and restraint – its name comes from the Greek ametusthos, meaning “not intoxicated”. More recently, amethyst has been associated with pure, loving relationships and deep emotional bonds.

Acting as a birthstone for the month of August, peridot is a gemstone shrouded in mystery. Its name has no clear origin – some sources suggest it is a derivative of the Latin paederot, which refers to a variety of opal, whereas others claim that it comes from the Arabic faridat, meaning ‘gem’. Its recorded use dates back as far as 1500 BC, where its symbolic powers seemingly ranged from warding off nightmares and promoting bravery to subduing negative feelings of anger and guilt.

Serving as a birthstone for the month of May, emerald has often been called the ‘Jewel of Kings’ due to its close ties with historical royalty – it was popularised by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Cleopatra, and has remained in fashion since. Surpassing even royalty, emerald has even been worshipped as a deity by some cultures, namely those in South America prior to the Spanish conquest, who deified the stone for its immense, undeniable beauty.
