    This handmade jewellery is inspired by my photograph of Almeria, a gorgeous coastal city and province in the sunlit paradise of southeast Spain. Graced with spotless beaches, stunning castle walls, and perpetually sunny skies, this gem of mainland Europe offers the perfect place to unwind.
     
    A February birthstone, amethyst has traditionally symbolised sobriety – its name derives from the Greek ametusthos, “not intoxicated”. More recently, it has also been tied to deep emotional bonds.
     
    The most widely-recognised birthstone for June, alexandrite is named after Alexander II of Russia, supposedly having been first discovered by miners in the Ural Mountains on his birthday.
